Children Hemmed In Prayer

The "Children Hemmed In Prayer" sewing project provides clothing that has been made by many loving hands to needy children around the world. The purpose of this mission project is not only to clothe the children, but also to have them bathed in prayer.

Letters from our CHIP partners

From Mrs. Read Shettler, a 91 year old lady who spearheaded the CHIP project in her church:

An article concerning Mary Beth Tuberville in the Missions Mosaic Magazine caught my attention.  Mary Beth wrote about being on a mission trip to Nigeria and seeing children without clothes or very little to wear.  When I read the article I knew that was something that I could do as well.  After receiving the patterns, I asked if anyone that could sew to meet with me and get started.  Twelve people showed up and we got the project started in our church, Big Bone Baptist.  Growing up during the depression of the 20's and 30's I watched my mother sew dresses for our family - so that started my sewing ability.  I had a teaching career of more than 30 years in Home Ec.
I am married (for 63 years) to a minister, have 2 children and 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  This project gave me the opportunity to again use my skills of sewing.  Being a pastor's wife it gave me many opportunities to sew and help other people.
After our church started the "Children Hemmed In Prayer" service, other churches wanted to get involved as well.  I met with 4 other churches and a Women's club to tell of the project.  This past year our pastor, his wife and others were able to take over 400 dresses and pants to India and distribute them to remote villages.  We will definitely continue this minstry.
Matt. 25 Jesus said, "I was naked and you gave me clothing.  In as much as you have done this to one of the least of these, you have done this for me."
